Camp Pelican was founded with the goal of providing a safe, fun and caring environment for every camper. After 46 years of camping, our philosophy remains the same. A summer camp where happy memories last all year long.
The camp opened in 1965 with the Hellwig family as its owners/directors. A second generation has continued that tradition of family pride and hands-on management. We have never forgotten that each camper becomes a part of our extended family. It assures that each camper feels safe, welcome and treated as an individual.

Daily transportation to and from camp is included in your camp fee. Our vans and mini-vans are operated by our own counselors/drivers. All licenses are inspected annually and driver training is always a part of our pre-season staff orientation.
All transportation is door-to-door in safe, modern vehicles equipped with air-conditioning and seat belts. Campers are normally picked up between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. with dropoffs scheduled between 4:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. We also offer reduced fees for families using our drive-in option.

Our flexible approach to camping periods allows your family to design a program that suits your needs. We are in session for a total of seven weeks each summer, but any camping period between two and seven weeks is usually available. Campers may choose to attend for a 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 week period, should that meet with their schedule. These weeks don't even need to be consecutive, so families can create a unique summer experience for every child.
We do require that all camping periods be full weeks, i.e. Monday through Friday. Campers are always welcome to extend their dates during the season, though we cannot guarantee availability due to transportation/group limits.

An enthusiastic and dedicated staff is our greatest asset. Each season we assemble an outstanding group of mature and motivated counselors. Their common goal is to make each summer a fun and rewarding experience for every camper. We are proud that so many of our staff return year after year to make this goal a reality.
The Hellwig family leads this effort daily to assure that every aspect of our program meets with your expectations. Our Program Directors and Head Counselors are all certified teachers drawn from our own staff. They usually have a minimum of five years as group counselors or specialists. Many have been with Camp Pelican for decades. They bring this wealth of experience and maturity to every facet of the camping experience.
Group Counselors, with a minimum age of twenty-one and often older, ensure that campers enjoy enthusiastic and experienced leaders. Along with trained specialists in a variety of disciplines, our counselors make sure that each camper's experience is tailored to their personal needs and goals.
Every staff member is personally interviewed by the directors and subject to a complete background investigation. We are proud to have a large number of former campers among our staff.

The outstanding facilities at Greenwich Catholic School are home for our summer program. Its thirty-two acre campus is an ideal setting for a fun-filled camping experience.
Abundant athletic fields are utilized for a variety of team and individual activities. Indoor and outdoor pools assure that our campers swim rain or shine. Modern buildings with air-conditioned activity rooms offer plenty of space for indoor fun. Tennis courts, a large gymnasium and stage are also used daily as a part of our complete camping program.
Camp Pelican is proud to be an accredited member of the American Camping Association. We are also licensed and inspected annually by the State of Connecticut Department of Health A registered nurse staffs our camp infirmary with a camp physician on call.
